Tiny Titan The Story of Plankton Book Review

It’s officially back to school month. It’s a great month to stock up on exciting new, informational books for your kids. I am thrilled to review a new STEAM-based title for kids. It’s called Tiny Titans: The Big Story of Plankton by Mary M. Cerullo.

Tiny Titans: The Big Story of Plankton

Book Review:

Do you have a budding young biologist or ecologist? Yes?! This book is perfect for them! It’s informative, educational, enlightening, vivid, and best suited for children ages 8-12 years old. The book provides a glimpse into the ocean world, explores all kinds of plankton, and also how important it is for our ecosystem.

Plankton is so small that you need a microscope to see these tiny microscopic creatures. They also provide 50% of the world’s oxygen? The beautiful photo illustrations on black backgrounds are intriguing and captivate real, seldom seen images of plankton for readers.

Key Elements We Loved:

Some of the key elements of the book that we loved were:

  • its sturdy hardback cover,
  • the depth of information shared about several plankton species (some come back to life after 200 years),
  • the scientific vocabulary used in the book (diatoms, chlorophyll, photosynthesis, bioluminescence), and
  • the incredible photography.

About the Author:

Mary Cerullo is a science facilitator that shares scientific research and environmental issues in hopes to help protect marine ecosystems.

Would you recommend this book?

I would recommend this book for children 8-12 years old that love science or biology, that are interested in the environment and the ocean.
