In this post, you’ll read book reviews for 3 preschool math books! They are all written by Danica McKellar (who remembers Winnie Cooper from the show ‘The Wonder Years’?).
The three awesome math books for preschoolers are:

What are your thoughts on the three books?
GOODNIGHT, NUMBERS
Goodnight, Numbers is probably my favorite of the three books. It is a New York Times Best Seller. Most of the reading in our house happens at bedtime, so this book naturally fits in with the bedtime theme. This is a preschool math book that toddlers would love also!
This delightful book is full of fun rhymes that will have little ones giggling and counting along! Join a cheerful toddler and their grown-up as they wander through different rooms of the house, getting ready for bed. Each page is packed with playful illustrations. They bring numbers to life in unexpected ways. Imagine finding 7 days in a week or 4 fuzzy socks on the floor! It’s a sweet, relatable adventure that ties counting to everyday moments, making it the perfect bedtime read. Don’t forget to check out the back of the book for more math fun suggestions from the author!
TEN MAGIC BUTTERFLIES
Does your little one adore fairies and magical tales? Then this enchanting picture book is just the ticket! McKellar includes stunning illustrations. She brings math to life by introducing counting, addition, and subtraction. The playful rhymes and charming images, make learning feel like an adventure. And the best part? It wraps up with a sweet ‘sleep tight,’ making it the perfect bedtime read for your tiny dreamer!
While I admire the creative twist of this book, I personally found the first two stories a bit more enjoyable. However, if you’ve got a kiddo with a short attention span, this might just be the perfect pick! It’s a super short read and a win for busy little minds. The story follows a boy during his bath time adventure, with the family counting along the way. What’s cool is that the illustrations even sneak in real math equations, helping your child get comfy with numbers. My tip: borrow this book first to see if it’s a hit before adding it to your collection!
About the Author:
Danica is an acclaimed mathematics author. She received her bachelors degree in mathematics at UCLA and is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) advocate. In many of her books it seems that she specifically targets young girls as her audience. In an interview with USA Today, Ms. McKellar stated that,
“I was a total STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) kid from the time I was born. I can’t ever remember a time that I didn’t want to not only learn, but be challenged. I think that’s why I love math; it challenges my brain.”
Have you read or own any of these books? Did you know that Danica McKellar was a math author? Let me know in the comments below.
As always, all opinions are 100% my own. Check out my other STEM book reviews here!
