In this post, you’ll read our book review of a story about Humpty Dumpty called ‘After the Fall’.

Who doesn’t know the story of Humpty Dumpty?  But do you know the story of what happened to him after ‘THE FALL’?  Our failures don’t define us, but what we do after we fail does.

What is this book about?

After the Fall: How Humpty Dumpy Got Back Up Again is written and illustrated by Dan Santat. It is an exquisite telling of the classic tale about Humpty Dumpty.  Humpty Dumpty is an avid bird watcher. He loves to watch birds from above high walls. One day he falls and becomes TERRIFIED of heights.  Eventually he finds the courage to face his fears. He bravely climbs back up the wall. There, something very surprising happens. He learns to fly!

What did you like about this book?

We loved this book for many reasons:

  • This book is beautifully illustrated.  My children love just looking through the images in the book.
  • The story line in this book is a masterpiece. It’s beautifully told and the ending is superb and ironic. Life truly begins after our failures. We need to choose not to give up and face our fears.
  • This book is great. It plays off of a common story that everyone knows. The ending is encouraging and enlightening. It provides an awesome moral.
  • You challenge yourself to be more than you ever imagined when you get back up after failure. Finding the courage to try again is essential.
  • The STEAM fields are challenging and they can be scary. There were times I did awful on a test in school or received a bad grade.  If I had given up and not faced some of my fears, I would not have become an engineer.  I faced some tough challenges while working as an engineer. If I had given up or let fear dictate how I handled various problems, then I would have failed. I would have never found creative solutions.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think?  If not, what did you think of my review?  Did you think you’ll like the story of Humpty Dumpty after the fall?

I will have to check this out. Have you seen Ada Twist, Scientist or Rosie Revere, Engineer? There are a few more in that series too. But my son particularly liked those two. And I loved them because they are totally STEM staring girl characters. And one is even a black girl, which made me super happy to see because of how under represented African American girls are in STEM.

Yes! I love That series too! I did a review of them last year. Rosie and Ada are my favorites from that series. Andrea Beaty is coming out with another in the series soon too about a Hispanic girl who wants to be president ❤️. Here are my previous reviews…
