In this post, we’ll be sharing a book review on a new math book series we discovered! Read our Bedtime Math Series Book Review!
We checked out three of the books in a series of four books from our local library:
- Bedtime Math: A Fun Excuse to Stay Up Late,
- Bedtime Math: This Time It’s Personal, and
- Bedtime Math: The Truth Comes Out.

Our Review:
These books are creatively written by Laura Overdeck. In each of the three books pages start with a wacky, fun, fact filled story about a particular topic. Then it is followed by 3-4 math questions related to the topic, that increase in difficulty – ‘Wee ones’, ‘Little Kids’, ‘Big Kids’ and sometimes ‘Bonus’ questions. I love that the author doesn’t specifically state an age range for the questions because all kids bloom at different rates in math.
The equations used to solve each problem are in the back of the book for reference. The books cover topics like counting, comparisons, adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, and some beginning algebra.

Did my mathematicians enjoy them?
Spoiler alert: YES! My girls absolutely loved these books. They provide just the right amount of challenge for both of them. Math word problems can be tough for many kids, but these books have boosted my girls’ confidence while also improving their verbal skills. And the best part? These books will grow with your kids over time!
The fourth book that we haven’t checked out yet is called “How many Guinea pigs can fit on a plane?”. This book is for the most advanced little mathematicians! We hope to check it out soon! If you have a specific age range of books you are looking for, feel free to reach out in the comments below!
