Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day

πŸŽ‰ As part of E-Week (Engineering Week), today is Introduce a Girl πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸŽ¨πŸ‘©πŸΏβ€πŸŽ¨πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸŽ¨πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨ to Engineering Day! πŸŽ‰

πŸ”¬Women earn 53% more of the undergraduate STEM degrees in the United States but women only account for a little over 20% of the undergraduate degrees in engineering 😱. We desperately need to increase this number. πŸ“ˆ I’ve seen numbers that of those 20%, only 40% actually remain in the field long term.

❓What is engineering❓
Engineering is a degree in expert problem solving! Engineers solve some of the most complex problems facing the world today. They work to make the world a better place.

πŸ’•How can you help a girl explore engineering:πŸ’•
🌟 Reinforce / encourage curiosity and asking questions!
🌟 If you are an engineer, share your experience with other girls!
🌟 Read engineering books like ‘Rosie Revere, Engineer’ or ‘How I Discovered Engineering’ by Diane Propsner.
🌟 Volunteer for career days at schools to talk about your engineering career!
🌟 Connect girls to STEM programs in your area like Science Olympiad, Girl Scouts , your local science center, SWEnext , etc.
🌟 Introduce role models!

Let’s keep breaking down that glass ceiling and encouraging the next generation of STEM women! πŸ’ͺ
